As Manager Geospatial Developers, you will be a people leader who will create an exceptional environment to enable our team and business to ensure the effective delivery of products and systems.  

A major product we support, the LINZ Data Service (LDS), holds more than 40 groupings of data on New Zealand's land and sea.  To ensure products like this deliver to our customers, you will work with your team and across the business, to ensure that our systems and processes are effective, robust and constantly improving. You will be interested in DevOps, and agile methodologies; Open Source and cloud hosting; tools, techniques and digital technologies to deliver the best products and systems, as well as being passionate about monitoring what is happening across government, geospatial and internationally, on technologies that support the processing and delivery of geospatial data to customers for re-use.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and providing leadership to the developer team enhancing the systems and applications that support products including the LINZ Data Service (LDS).
  • High level strategic and day to day planning, monitoring and reviews of systems and processes.  Managing outcomes; the delivery of tools and functions; reporting progress to management; risk and issue mitigation; and delivery within scope and budget.
  • Collaborating with vendors, stakeholders and internal teams to deliver customer focussed technical solutions, using influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Managing delivery and enhancements to ensure products and approach within your team remain relevant.  Keeping up to date with technology, digital advancements, other technological, digital, geospatial or government initiatives ensuring we continue to test thinking and leverage for efficiency.

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong people leadership experience, and ability to influence across and up, including management of vendors. An engaging working style and gets the best out of people.
  • Experience working across areas such as: Spatial IT; product development; project management; GIS; open source.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills - pitches information at the right level.
  • Experience in establishing and improving processes to optimise efficiency, using a DevOps approach and incorporating agile methodologies where optimal, incorporating best practice software development life-cycle methodology.
