We have a great opportunity for a Manager of International Engagement to join our Joint Directors-General Office supporting both the GCSB and NZSIS. You will make a difference to how the NZSIS and GCSB manage our international relationships and work across relevant public service agencies to align our approach to international engagement.

In this role you will be responsible for providing expert advice on international engagement activities for the GCSB and NZSIS, and ensuring that both agencies take a strategic approach to all international engagement. The role is varied and challenging and will involve developing a work programme and priorities for the team that balances the interests of GCSB, NZSIS and the New Zealand Intelligence Community (NZIC) overall. You will also be responsible for an international engagement strategy that identifies the key relationships that each organisation should invest in and instituting a framework to measure the success of these engagements. You will have responsibility for overseeing and providing support to the Directors-General and senior management on their international travel by ensuring briefing materials are appropriate and in place. 

Your aim will be to produce high quality work on time, ensuring the Directors-General and management can make well-informed and coordinated decisions for GCSB and NZSIS.

This role will require you to draw on your excellent relationship building skills to ensure that stakeholders and your advice are well-informed. You will be a strong conceptual thinker and a proven people manager. We are looking for someone with the following:

• A tertiary education qualification in a relevant area such as international relations or strategic studies

• Significant experience working at a senior management level

• Experience working with international partners and protocols at a senior level

• Experience in strategic and policy development in an international context

Experience holding a representational role in an international setting

Our ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively across GCSB and NZSIS as well as with other agencies to deliver to deadlines and be able to use sound judgement, flexibility and excellent interpersonal skills to implement solutions to complex and ambiguous problems.

Salary range:  $128,161 - $192,241 circa.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.  Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance.  Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken.  Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
