Two five-year tenure-track positions are available as part of the University’s Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) programme
Applications are welcomed in any discipline area applicable to energy and sustainability, including:
- Computing and Mathematics (e.g. software development; human-computer interactions; networks; modelling)
- Psychology/Human Geography (human/societal interaction/interface with smart systems)
- Materials relating to green energy
Keele University has secured £15 million of investment in a new project that will allow the University campus to become the largest single integrated electricity, gas and heat smart energy network demonstrator in Europe. The Smart Energy Network Demonstrator will also be the first facility in Europe for at-scale living laboratory research, development and demonstration of new smart energy technologies and services, in partnership with business and industry. The investment will support businesses to carry out new product and service development, underpinned by collaborative research development and innovation funding and will help develop new business supply chains for smart energy products and services. Applications are welcomed from individuals committed to high quality research in any of the following areas:
- the field of Internet of Things (IoT), areas such as smart grid, smart cities, energy informatics, data analytics
- software development, networks and systems, mathematical modelling relevant to energy and sustainability;
- social psychology, including behaviour studies in sustainability and new smart energy technologies;
- any area of human geography relevant to energy and sustainability;
- research in the field of material science and engineering for the next generation of green energy such as new sustainable materials for solar cells, rechargeable batteries, fuel cells, and computational materials science;
- green chemistry such as green chemicals and biofuels, carbon capture, renewable materials, and sustainable synthesis. Note that this is not an exhaustive list and that other relevant areas of research would also be considered.
The post-holder will possess an excellent track record of innovative research and be capable of developing an independent research programme. The successful candidate will have the potential to develop and/or maintain internationally competitive research, underpinned by publications and grant success. He/she will contribute to research activities related to the SEND project, in particular the Centre for Doctoral Training on Smart Energy where the candidate will be expected to supervise PhD students. There are currently 26 fully-funded PhD studentships available in the programme to commence in the period 2017-2018.
The SEND project (project reference code 32R16P00706) is part-funded from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds England Growth Programme 2014-2020 and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
Appointment at Grade 8 may be made in exceptional circumstances and will require significant extra experience in all areas. Applications are encouraged from candidates across the full range.
This is a five year principally research based position which would be expected to track through to a permanent academic position.
