Detail information about job Ceramics Technician. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed term until 31st January 2018

Band 500 - Full time starting salary is normally in the range £21,904 to £23,532. With potential progression once in post to £27,242 a year.

Post is available for a period up to 31st Jan 2018 but there may be a further 12 months of funding available from a different, but related project.

The University invites applications for a skilled technician to work with Professor Jon Binner on an EPSRC-funded project on “Materials Systems for Extreme Environments”. The main theme of the project is to develop advanced structural ceramic materials that can withstand extreme temperatures and heat fluxes amongst other requirements.

You will provide technical support to laboratories involving the use of standard experimental equipment for advanced ceramics research. This will include sample preparation and routine testing. It will also include working with students, members of staff, external organisations and suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the research facilities. You will also maintain the research laboratory and equipment, and ensure that a safe working environment is maintained at all times. In return, you will be supported in learning about the latest developments in advanced ceramic processing and characterisation.

Note that there is a reasonable chance, though it is not yet confirmed in writing, that there will be a further 12 months of funding available to work on a related but different project.

The successful candidate will join the vibrant ceramics research group in the School of Metallurgy and Materials at the University of Birmingham. Further information about the School of Metallurgy and Materials is available on http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/metallurgy-materials/index.aspx
