Full-time 37 hours per week

Arts University Bournemouth is the leading professional arts university dedicated to turning creativity into careers. Offering courses in art, design, architecture, media and performance, we are passionate about our specialist subjects and dedicated both to education and the creative industries which we serve.

In support of our growing portfolio of off campus technical resources, currently comprising a dedicated film studio and an adjoining, newly acquired, set construction workshop, this new post, which reports directly to the Faculty Technical Manager, will provide operational technical leadership, supporting staff and students across a wide range of design and practice-based courses, both within and outside the Faculty of Media and Performance.

Primarily working within these specialist resources, you will ensure the on-going availability of serviceable equipment through proactive and reactive maintenance, ensuring adherence to university policies and legislative requirements; support staff and students in their creative practice, offering technical advice and delivering appropriate technical and health and safety inductions and workshops; oversee booking systems, and contribute to ensuring access as and when required; and supervise or line manage established or casual technical support colleagues, as appropriate.

The successful candidate will possess a wide range of technical skills, knowledge and experience, including interpreting theatre and film set design plans and supporting their realisation, practical experience with wood-work, joinery, metal work, rigging and power distribution; and knowledge of fundamental health and safety at work regulations, including work at height, electricity at work, manual handling, COSHH, PUWER and LOLER.

You must possess a first degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject, or have significant industry experience in a related field, as well as GCSE grade A-C, or equivalent, in English and Maths. Upon commencement in the post you will be required to complete a range of training and development, relevant to the post and environment, maintaining your Continuous Professional Development to comply with legislative requirements and ensure knowledge and experience is maintained in line with industry trends.

Experience of working in a related professional environment is essential, while having contributed to supporting learners in a further or higher education context would be advantageous.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to the working day and environment as this varied post supports a diverse range of individuals, and will entail evening and weekend working. Due to the off campus nature of this post, you will also need to be in possession of a full UK/EU driving license.
