Europe's top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, has combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge.               

As part of the University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic cancer biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 400 researchers and support staff with 22 research groups and associated core facilities.  It provides a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment in cancer research, with state of the art facilities and core scientific resources, and good links with the scientific community of Cambridge.

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Scientific Support Assistant (SSSA) within the Laboratory Management Team. The role holder will work closely with the Ground Floor Laboratory Manager to provide a high standard of support to the research laboratories and core facilities, managing the laboratory consumable stocks required by the research labs. They will be responsible for managing the supply, delivery and maintenance of the specialist compressed gas cylinders, providing a daily delivery service throughout the Institute. The role involves the filling of specialist equipment with Liquid Nitrogen and Liquid Helium as well as line managing the Scientific Support Assistant (SSA) who will deputise for the SSSA as necessary. The SSSA will be responsible for the collection of hazardous chemicals from the laboratories in the Institute and liaising with waste contractors for their safe disposal.

The successful candidate will a good communicator who is able to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of people at all staff levels.  They will be conscientious, highly organised and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

The role holder will work in several different areas within the Institute so flexibility and a willingness to work where required at short notice is essential. Manual handling will be a key part of this role.
