Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has a vacancy for 36 months for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, in the The School of Physics and Astronomy as a result of a successful EPSRC grant under the UK-USA joint research initiative.

The aim of the project is to perform modelling studies of several glassy materials to be used as new matrices to encapsulate nuclear waste. The modelling will involve extensive classical molecular dynamics simulations. Under the supervision of Dr Kostya Trachenko and Prof Martin Dove, the successful candidate will study structure, dynamical and thermodynamic properties of several systems. This will be done in collaboration with our US partners (University of California, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and University of Tennessee) who will perform synthesis, structural characterization and thermodynamical analysis. There will be opportunities to travel to the USA to develop and maintain collaborative research with our US partners.

All applicants should have, or be about to gain, a PhD or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent subject. Experience in appropriate research techniques relevant position are required, as outlined in the job description.

The post is full time and fixed term for 36 months, and is expected to start in late 2017. Starting salary will be in the range of £32,956 to £38,709 per annum inclusive of London Allowance and will incrementally increase in two subsequent years.
