Background

Queen Margaret University’s Consumer Dispute Resolution Centre is a leading provider of dispute resolution courses and research, working in a variety of markets within the UK and across the world.  We provide highly successful professional practice courses to a number of ombudsman, mediation and complaint handling organisations in both public and private sectors, as well as developing courses for the Ombudsman Association and the International Ombudsman Institute. We also provide research and consultancy services. This is an exciting time for the Centre, which is looking to build on the success of existing provision and continue expanding within existing and new markets.

Position

The Division of Business, Enterprise and Management is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Dispute Resolution to help the Centre deliver its ambitious expansion programme. We are looking for an academic or practitioner with experience of dispute resolution in areas such as complaint handling, mediation, arbitration, and ombudsman practice. An effective leader and team worker, you will have the ability to contribute to our MSc Dispute Resolution. You will also be able to travel on a regular basis to deliver high quality learning solutions for external clients throughout the UK and internationally.

The post-holder will contribute to a range of work-based learning programmes for external clients and will have the ability to enliven and engage students studying aspects of dispute resolution such as mediation, conflict management, arbitration, ombudsman practice, and complaint handling. The role may also include teaching in the Division of Business Enterprise and Management at our Edinburgh campus.

The post holder will be expected to engage in the active development of external networks and income generating activities, which are likely to include the creation and delivery of short courses.

We welcome applications from candidates educated to degree level, who have experience in a dispute resolution/ombudsman/complaint handling capacity.

Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and time management skills are required, as well as highly developed presentation and written communication skills. Effective project leadership and the ability to motivate would be an advantage.
