Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Neuroscience. Terms and conditions vacancy

John Radcliffe Hospital

This is a readvertisement, previous applicants need not apply.

This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research scientist to make a substantial contribution to a multi-disciplinary research project led by Dr Huiling Tan. The project is funded by the MRC, and aims to develop and test the efficacy of novel brain machine Interface systems based on subcortical local field potentials recorded from human subjects for the purpose of robotic control and neurofeedback training.

The project will involve collecting behavioural and electrophysiological data (EEG, LFP as well as EMG) from human subjects, analysing the brain signals in real-time to decode relevant information, and then using the information to drive an external actuator. This will also allow us to investigate the neural basis of the process of learning in BMI use in humans.

You will be responsible for adapting existing and developing algorithms and protocols for real-time signal processing; developing software for running and analysing the experiments; preparing scientific reports, journal articles and representing the group at external meetings/conferences. You will be based in the Experimental Neurology Group in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Oxford, working closely with neuroscientists, engineers, neurologists, neurosurgeons, as well as patients undergoing deep brain stimulation.

The successful applicant will hold or be close to completing a PhD or equivalent in neuroscience or quantitative discipline (e.g. engineering, physics). Essential skills include substantial experience in electrophysiological recordings (EEG, LFP) and signal analysis; proficiency in computer programming (e.g., Matlab, Python, C++) for real-time signal acquisition and processing; and good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. You will be highly self-motivated; able to problem-solve and trouble-shoot technical difficulties; attentive to detail and meticulous about record-keeping. Experience in system identification and machine learning is also desirable.

The post is full-time for a fixed-term of 3 years in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Thursday 28 September 2017 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
