The Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand Inc. (MDANZ) is a small, dedicated not-for profit, working to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by mainly rare, inherited neuromuscular conditions.

We are seeking a health literacy champion with sound knowledge of New Zealand’s health and disability sector who relishes the opportunity to source, interpret and develop a diverse range of clinical and evidence based information for a multitude of audiences. 

You will be able to communicate effectively with all people, proactively manage relationships and facilitate equitable access to services for our members.

Ideally you will have a health professional background, be familiar with neuromuscular conditions and be willing to work across a broad scope that includes information development, service provision, projects, networking, education, lobbying, and participation in fundraising activities where required.  

This is a part time position (30 hours per week – 0.75fte) based at our National Office in Penrose, Auckland

Core components of this role include:

• Information and resource development, maintenance and storage 

• Facilitate member access to MDANZ benefits, services and loan equipment

• Manage requests for information from members, health and support professionals and other stakeholders 

• Provide information to support MDANZ awareness and lobbying, projects and relevant grant applications, taking the lead where required

• Proactively manage our membership process to ensure customer centric processes are consistently applied

• Educate others and raise awareness of neuromuscular conditions and MDANZ at relevant tertiary, community or health and disability sector events and provide information support to other members of the team doing the same

• Maintain MDANZ website content relating to all aspects of neuromuscular conditions

We are seeking someone with the following attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to build authentic relationships with MDA members, colleagues both local and nationwide, health professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn quickly, research information and data accurately and present well-reasoned findings and recommendations in a user-friendly way.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple deadlines with accuracy and ease.
  • Technical competence to carry out duties, involving Microsoft office suite, website management and database platforms.
  • A passionate commitment to customer service and a sound understanding of confidentiality, privacy and health & disability consumer rights.
  • Ability to travel domestically and overseas if required

Work experience in a health or disability setting is required and a relevant tertiary qualification in a health related field is preferred.

The hourly rate for this part time position ranges between $28.00 and $32.00 (gross per hour).
