Waitomo Caves Museum Society Incorporated
Nestled in the King Country, Waitomo Caves is an internationally acclaimed visitor attraction. Visitors to the Museum are shown manaakitanga and welcomed to explore both tourism and historic information above and underground. The Waitomo Caves and Discovery Centre was established at Waitomo Caves in 1980. The comprehensive collection consists of natural, social, geological history and taonga Maori. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the area and its heritage for future generations through kaitiakitanga principles as shown in its local and national environmental partnerships.
We are looking for a motivated Museum Director to join our team and lead a redevelopment transformation over the next 5-10 years. This is an incredible opportunity to take our facility into a new realm of experiential development and transformation for locals and visitors alike. You will be a visionary, a leader with a commitment to collaboration and possess great communication skills with a high level of appropriate experience within a museum or related environment. You will have the ability to lead and provide direction utilizing your project management skills to assist your team in delivering a wide range of project types, complex business initiatives and change programmes.
We are interested in hearing from you if you have:
- Tertiary qualification in Museum Studies, Art and Design
- Three - five years in a public museum or related organisation
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to engage with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, including Iwi, funders, industry peers, and community members
- Project management principles and practice
- Grant writing and administration, management practices and budgeting skills.
- Knowledge of the principles of curation, community and visitor engagement and delivery of public programmes
