Detail information about job Marketing and Communications Administrator. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Exciting new role with respected community organisation
  • Help make a positive difference to people who use and inject drugs
  • Christchurch based position - 6 month fixed term contract

The Needle Exchange Programme (NEP) is one of New Zealand's most successful public health programmes. New Zealand was the first country in the world to introduce a state, sponsored Needle Exchange Programme. Due to the early introduction of needle exchange HIV prevalence amongst people who inject drugs is relatively low, however challenges such as hepatitis C remain. This year we celebrate our 30th anniversary. We now distribute over 3 million needles and syringes each year across the country through 22 dedicated exchanges and 198 pharmacies.

We are a harm reduction programme, established by activists from the drug using community who self-mobilised and worked with health professionals to protect their own and others' health. Needle and syringe programmes are now well-established and internationally recognised. We seek to reduce the harms from drug use and provide an empathic, non-judgemental approach.

Today we remain a peer based, peer led service. We are looking for someone who is social media and digital savvy… and if you do have lived experience that's all good with us.

The Needle Exchange Services Trust is the national office of the NEP and has recently created a number of new positions including the post of Marketing and Communications Administrator. The successful applicant will work with the Marketing and Events Manager joining a tight knit and friendly team who thrive on our open culture and collaborative environment.

Key activities include:

  • Social media campaigns to increase the visibility of planned new campaigns including hepatitis C treatment and testing
  • Supporting ongoing updates of our new website and social media presence
  • Developing, in conjunction with NEP staff, campaigns highlighting risky behaviours and promoting safer practices
  • Working with design agencies, NEP staff and national service user advisory group to produce merchandise and promotional materials
  • Research and identify events where the campaign can be promoted.
  • Produce reports on progress of the campaign as outlined in the programme.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A passion for and an interest in work that enhances health and addresses social justice
  • Openness to new ideas and ways of thinking
  • Sound understanding of social media and a range of digital platforms
  • The ability to learn quickly
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Previous experience in marketing and communications fields preferred but not essential.

If you are a reliable and hard-working person who is looking to make a real difference in New Zealand, then this job is for you.
