About the role

PGG Wrightson is passionate about working with local Iwi and providing industry expertise to ensure the sustainable development of agricultural land. This role will partner with Maori trusts to support on-farm profitability, delivering results for current and future generations. Our technical knowledge and our ability to provide a full agricultural service and product offering means we can play a key role in assisting Iwi to live and work on their land.

Reporting to the Regional Manager - Upper North Island, this role will partner with Maori trusts as the primary contact to implement agreed farm development plans. The role will maintain a technical focus but success will be driven by building relationships, adding value and creating an opportunity to play a role in the farm management team.

Specific accountabilities include the following:

  • Provide input into individual annual farming plans for each Maori Trust
  • Support the achievement of Trust business targets by providing advice and guidance to farm management teams
  • Give technical advice on land development and the services and products that PGG Wrightson can provide to support the development of general farm systems
  • Identify development needs on farm and assist in building capability
  • Utilise a range of business support tools to add technical value (including Farm IQ)

Relationships with internal colleagues will also be critical and the successful applicant will need to work closely with our teams to ensure specialist skill sets are leveraged on farm. You will be driven by achieving financial targets (for both Maori trusts and PGG Wrightson), providing specialised technical advice and excelling at relationship management. You will have the ability to build a strong profile as a technical specialist and as a leader in the field.

Skills and experience:

  • Strong understanding of Maori culture with an in-depth knowledge of Iwi business practices and priorities
  • Introductory Maori language skills and personal values aligned to Maori culture
  • A working knowledge of technical farming systems and a desire to grow skills
  • A relevant tertiary qualification preferred but not essential
  • Experience in a rural sales role or a working knowledge of horticultural practices will be highly advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including group presentations
