 The role

This role operates in the Insurance for NSW department, which manages the claims portfolio for NSW Government Agencies including Health, Police and Emergency Services, Premier, Cabinet, and Planning.

The purpose of a Work Capacity Specialist is to ensure sound, sustainable work capacity assessments and decisions are made in accordance with the 2012 NSW legislative reform and the associated WorkCover Guidelines. 

This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced Senior Case Manager to build on your existing skills, and gain some great experience in a specialised area of case management in the IfNSW portfolio!

Responsibilities include:

  • Support Operational managers in achieving strategic claim outcomes via the use of work capacity decisions
  • Support claims staff to identify appropriate claims for work capacity decisions
  • Undertake reviews of proposed Work Capacity Assessments and Decisions
  • Provide structured and constructive feedback regarding decisions
  • Ensure all communication and documentation has been prepared and implemented in accordance with internal and regulatory standards
  • Provide expertise and guidance to case managers regarding the Strategic Plan required to maximise the capacity for suitable employment of injured workers
  • Coach, guide and assist team members in making robust and sustainable decisions
  • Provide support to team members by proactively managing required actions as required
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Skills and Experience

  • Previous Work Capacity experience is highly desired
  • Sound understanding of all relevant NSW Workers Compensation legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in claims and injury management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong customer service acumen coupled with sound interpersonal skills
  • Outcome focused with the ability to manage competing demands
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
