South Eastern Private Hospital (SEPH) is a 177 bed facility with a Mental Health, Rehabilitation, Medical/Oncology and Palliative Care focus. We are conveniently located in the South Eastern suburbs at the intersection of Princes Highway & Eastlink in Noble Park.
The vision for SEPH is to be the foremost health facility delivering best practice inpatient and outpatient services in the South Eastern Melbourne corridor.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Drug & Alcohol Counsellor with highly developed group facilitation skills and a commitment to excellence to join our Allied Health Team. You would be joining our excellent team across the Psychiatric Day Program and Inpatient ward. The Addiction and other Drug (AOD) Counsellor will ensure a timely through-put of a range of counselling clients in line with contemporary, professional standards of practice. The day program is to incorporate cognitive therapy, behavioural structures and case planning, within a safe environment, enhancing individual motivation for change and skills development.
The key aims of the program are to:
- reduce or cease harmful alcohol and other drug use, and to avoid and better manage relapse
- establish healthier relationships and lifestyles free of problematic alcohol and drug use
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Offering group-based therapy for Addictions on both the inpatient and outpatient programs
- Developing addiction programs for the provision of adult psychiatric patients, with drug and alcohol difficulties secondary to a primary mental health diagnosis
- Providing consultation to other health professionals and other involved staff.
- Offering counselling to in-patients on the management of addiction
- Collaborating as part of an inter-disciplinary team, working alongside other health professionals (eg psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, pharmacists and exercise physiologists).
Essential Criteria
- Experience in running AOD group programs
- Experience in the delivery of clinical interventions in a hospital setting with AOD clients with complex and multiple needs including Dual Diagnosis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the psychosocial issues affecting people with problematic substance abuse issues.
- Full registration with your appropriate board; Psychologist Grade 2, Occupational Therapist Grade 2 or Social Worker Grade 2
- You have the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
- Excellent time management skills
- A commitment to CPD and quality improvement in your relevant field
- Excellent customer service skills with a strong focus on patient centred care
- Excellent collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team
- Focus on service improvement for delivery of excellent patient care and positive patient outcomes
