The Opportunity
 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Commander within the Transport Management Centre. The position will play a key role in managing incidents by applying a whole of transport approach, assessing incident response requirements, requesting assistance and working with the TMC and other transport agencies ensuring that incidents are resolved safely and in a timely manner with minimal impact to the transport network and transport services.

 

The primary purpose of the role is to command field transport resources and to liaise with emergency services and recovery teams to provide an urgent whole of transport response to incidents which occur on the transport or road network within the position's designated operational area, and proactively monitor on the ground performance of the transport network.

 

We are looking for an individual who is highly responsive, capable of planning and executing incident response plans in short tight timelines and work with multiple stakeholders in ensuring that the operations are carried out swiftly.

Essential requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise in the management of traffic or the operation of the road network or in the field of transport operations
  • Demonstrated ability in incident planning and a good understanding of a range of resources available to solve complex traffic and transport problems
  • Sound understanding of the transport network and the roles of State transport agencies and emergency management organisations in New South Wales
  • Sound knowledge of environmental and Work Health and Safety issues and emergency response and disaster management in a field response situation.
  • Current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
  • The position requires the incumbent to be on rostered “On Standby” outside of normal working hours, Monday to Friday, weekends and public holidays. The “On Standby” period involves responding to unplanned incidents covering 24 hours
  • Successful completion of Emergency Response Driving Course
  • Incumbents must live in the Sydney Metropolitan Transport District
  • High level of fitness/core strength and ability to work prolonged hours during harsh weather conditions
  • Meet the requirements of a medical examination based on the tasks required to be performed
