ADVISOR, POLICY DEVELOPMENT (Insurance Focus)

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is the prudential supervisor of the Australian financial sector. APRA’s core mission is to establish and enforce prudential standards and practices designed to ensure that, under all reasonable circumstances, financial promises made by institutions we supervise are met within a stable, efficient and competitive financial system.

As a Policy Advisor you will be responsible for developing policy options and making recommendations across the full range of general insurance prudential policy, including the content of prudential standards and prudential practice guides. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to APRA’s policy making in other industries. You will work across the insurance sector through consolidating both internally, and externally with other government agencies and industry groups. Policy recommendations must be supported by sound arguments which appropriately balance high quality risk management, international developments and stakeholder feedback. The successful candidate will have:
  • strong tertiary qualification;
  • in-depth knowledge of, and practical experience in, the general insurance industry, including financial and risk management aspects;
  • excellent written, communication and consultation skills, including stakeholder management capabilities; and
  • highly developed organisational and priority management skills and provide ability to work autonomously.
The successful applicant must also be an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen and complete background and security clearances. We are ideally looking for someone with a background in Insurance and policy development, however a strong policy background will also be considered.

APRA invests in contemporary technologies to enable our employees to achieve work life balance, via flexible working practices. We are dedicated to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaboration and continuous improvement.

APRA is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, or disability status.

APRA provides ongoing studies support, structured training programs and excellent career progression opportunities all within a highly professional environment where maintaining work-life balance is our policy.
