These are permanent full-time positions located at our Perth Head Office

 

About the Role:

 

There are a number of positions available in the Automation and Control Area of Western Power. The incumbents are accountable for developing and applying high level subject matter expertise and specialist knowledge and engineering experience, knowledge, best practice and skills in delivering competitive design, settings, estimating, project / contract management and consulting products and services associated with transmission and distribution secondary systems.

 

The specific disciplines needed are in Protection and Telecommunications. The candidates should have extensive experience in a utility environment and meet the following criteria, based on the disciplines they are applying for:

 

Protection

 

The successful applicant must have extensive knowledge and experience in the following:

 

  • Undertaking electrical engineering protection design, settings and investigation work in various utility applications including transmission line, transformer, switchgear and feeder protection.
  • Preparing detailed scopes and estimates for the protection component of projects.
  • Preparing specifications, analysing tenders, managing contracts and initiating purchases of protection equipment.
  • Undertaking system modelling and fault studies.
  • Determining CT/VT performance requirements.
  • Experience in IEC61850 System Integration.
  • Good knowledge of technical requirements in an electrical utility environment.

 

 

Telecommunications

 

The successful applicant must have specialist hands-on knowledge and experience in the following:

 

  • Telecommunication design, preferably in an electrical utility environment
  • Experience in PDH/SDH, optical and microwave radio design, as well as VHF/UHF design
  • Experience in Ethernet routing and switching, and MPLS-TP
  • Good knowledge of technical requirements in an electrical utility environment including services provided to Protection and Automation (SCADA)

 

 

About you:

 

The successful applicant will be experienced and competent in the following:

 

  • Degree in electrical or electronic engineering recognized by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a professional engineer
  • Extensive knowledge of transmission and distribution secondary systems concept and detailed design, and estimating processes
  • High level understanding and knowledge of engineering standards, compliance & regulations, Western Power’s Technical Rules and procedures applicable to secondary systems
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of current technological developments in the field of protection and/or telecommunication
  • Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
