About Our Role
Due to continuing strong growth, our Brisbane CBD based team has a need for a Senior Tailings and Mine Waste Engineer to complement our existing Tailing and Mine Waste team. GHD has a significant profile across Australia in tailings management and mine waste services for Tier 1 mining clients.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in project and technical delivery, mentoring team members and the ability to create strong relationships with clients.

Key responsibilities: 

• Playing a key technical and project management role, often in multi-disciplinary teams, for planning, feasibility studies and detailed design 
• Undertaking dam safety inspections and risk assessments to satisfy dam safety requirements 
• Lead project teams for dam and geotechnical design including earth and concrete dam foundations, embankment dam stability, hydraulic analysis, water balance, deposition planning, groundwater analysis 
• Significant experience in scoping and delivery geotechnical investigations to support tailings projects 
• Preparation of construction contract documentation 
• Provide construction certification and field engineering for tailings storage facility projects 
• Contributing to client relationship development, both nationally and internationally using internal and external networks 
• Mentor and train other GHD staff

About you
Successful candidates will ideally possess the following skills and experience: 

• RPEQ or able to acquire within 6 months 
• A knowledge of ANCOLD, ICOLD and other industry guidelines 
• Broad range of experience in planning, design and construction phase services 
• Experience in leading a project team for tailings storage facility planning, investigation and design Computer knowledge and skills relevant to geotechnical and dam engineering analyses 
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and strong technical background 
• Demonstrated communication skills and commercial acumen

Substantial experience in tailings dams and mine waste engineering is essential, ideally in a consulting environment, along with related tertiary qualifications in civil engineering. You will have excellent communication skills, be proactive, innovative, and take pride in producing quality work. You will be able to direct and manage small to medium project teams and work within the wider GHD tailings and dams’ community on larger projects. 

Qualifications
The successful applicant will possess relevant qualifications in civil engineering (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering). Postgraduate qualifications will be favourably considered.
