The Company
Service Stream are a national service provider to the telecommunications and utilities industries. We specialise in the design, construction and maintenance of new and existing networks on behalf of our blue chip client base.
The Roles
We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Business Partner to join our Sydney based team and cover the NSW region. The successful candidate will work closely with local managers and workers to achieve a safe workplace. This will be achieved by applying your experience and knowledge to develop the HSE capability of the workforce, adopting a collaborative approach to managing issues and influencing safe outcomes. This role reports to the Regional HSE Lead and will support managers and workers in meeting their duties and obligations and implementing Service Stream HSE requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
Work with managers and supervisors to embed a safe and positive work culture in the business, leading safety as a role model demonstrating good safety practice through your actions and decisions.
Lead and coach managers in the verification and implementation of safety management plans and work practices and provide advice on improvement. Follow up and confirm that corrective actions taken effectively manage the risks and are closed out
Lead and coach managers and supervisors, developing their skills in incident management and the investigation process. Ensure all incidents are assessed and undergo an appropriate level of investigation, analysis, action, follow up, review and closure.
Lead and coach management and workers developing their skills and continually improving the company's risk management capability, participate in the identification, assessment and controls of HSE risk, ensure identified HSE risks are elevated to the appropriate level of management for action.
Work with management and workers to implement the company's policies, systems, programs and initiatives in the region.
Provide specialist HSE advice in incident prevention and safety performance improvement, workers compensation, and regulatory compliance - interpret and apply regulation, codes in a practicable manner.
Prepare technical briefing documents for meetings or inclusion in reports and prepare other specialist subject matter reports / papers as required.
Coach and mentor managers and workers in meeting the work health and safety requirements of their roles.
Lead and coach management and workers developing their skills in implementing and participating in the company's consultative arrangements.
Collaborate with contractors and undertake regular safety monitoring activities
Required Skills and Experience
Minimum of 3 year experience in HSE Manager / Coordinator role.
Working knowledge of Legislation, Standards and Codes and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AS 4801 standards
Experience managing safety requirements on major engineering or construction projects, with a strong track record in working effectively with project contractors.
Strong skills in auditing and investigation.
Excellent people management skills, with the capacity to listen to others, identify their needs and provide appropriate direction, guidance and support.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with a demonstrated ability to discuss a wide range of issues to engage people across all levels of the organisation, including senior management.
Ability to effectively develop constructive relationships with stakeholders.
Sound organisational skills and the ability to work to tight and often conflicting deadlines.
Experience developing and implementing environmental management systems.
