The Company

Government organisation located at Merrylands requires an experienced project Support Officer for a temporary role through until October.

The Role

The Project Support Officers support the planning, implementation and review of key projects delivered by the Community Planning and Development section of the Community and Culture Group within this organisation.

Duties will include

  • Planning, promoting and supporting of a range of programs and activities delivered such as community engagement activities for development of strategies and plans Duties may include set-up of equipment, direct delivery of services and/or supervision of the delivery of programs, coordinating bookings and managing registrations/payments/attendance, liaising with participants and engagement of/liaison with facilitators, coordinating the purchase of materials and monitoring income and expenditure to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints and undertaking evaluations. This may include out of hours work - evenings and weekends.
  • Assisting in the facilitation and/or coordination of internal and external stakeholder meetings for projects.
  • Community engagement activities e.g. delivering interactive activity with community members/children/young people, hosting an information stall, answering enquiries and promoting programs/services. This may include out of hours work - evenings and weekends.
  • Performing a range of administrative, organisational and financial tasks, including maintaining information systems, developing key documents including promotional material, data entry and analysis, ordering supplies, record keeping and general office duties with attention to detail.


The position will also:

  • Prepare reports and attend to correspondence as appropriate.
  • Effectively manage time, set priorities and undertake delegated tasks autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure the delivery of quality customer service in all dealings with the community.
  • Deal effectively with complaints or feedback from individuals, community groups and service providers to ensure complaints or suggestions are responded to appropriately and long term solutions are established.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will have;

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in the planning, delivery and evaluation of community development projects and/or community engagement/project management/social research.
  • High level administrative and organisational skills, including attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records and advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced customer service and community liaison skills, including the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and unsupervised to deliver a diverse range of activities or services.
  • Current Working with Children Number or ability to obtain.
  • Willingness and availability to work to a roster.
  • Work days are flexible i.e. can be Mon - Thu, Tues - Fri or another pattern. The position will be required work outside of normal work hours to take live minutes at meetings on set evening dates.
