About the role

This position is responsible for providing high quality, intensive and effective case work for vulnerable children, young people and their families living in the Western Metropolitan Region and referred by Child Protection.

The Family Services Case Worker (Integrated Family Services, IFS) position reports to the Coordinator IFS Melton. The position is primarily based in our Melton office. Some travel may be required.

This is a leave coverage position, which fixed-term until 28 August 2019 in a full-time capacity.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in the Active Holding Function for the Western Child and Family Services Alliance
  • Establish collaborative relationships with Child Protection teams, Child FIRST Alliance members, local early years services and other relevant agencies
  • Ensure individual targets are met and to report on targets in a timely manner

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, social policy, social studies, social history, health or an allied field.
  • Well-developed knowledge of child development and the issues that vulnerable children, young people and families face.
  • Sound knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and policies relevant to Child Welfare, Family Services and Child Protection Services.
  • Well-developed skills in assessing risks, needs and safety for children, young people and families.
  • High level casework and case management and counselling skills with complex families.
  • Eligibility for membership of AASW/APA is desirable.
