The Role
The Planned Giving Officer will be responsible for the management of the donor portfolio to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gifts. You will also assist in the design of strategic initiatives to generate planned giving leads and will be the main point of contact for the Bequest Society, solicitors and trustees.
Your Key responsibilities will include;
- Initiate gift discussions, respond to donor inquiries and develop written proposals for donors/prospects providing expertise in connection with bequests.
- Work closely with Development colleagues to provide support to increase awareness of and create appropriate gift proposals to cultivate and solicit planned gifts.
- Develop up-to-date expertise in tax and probate laws affecting charitable giving.
- Undertake an agreed number of fundraising meetings with prospects each month.
- Write and record contact reports in the fundraising database.
- Assist in establishing annual revenue targets for the Planned Giving Program.
- Work with the fundraising team to develop seminars or other events to promote Planned Giving opportunities to donors/prospects.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Essential
- A Bachelors’ degree and 1 to 3 years in fundraising or finance is required.
- Basic knowledge of legal terms, financial planning and financial markets preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and diverse relationships required to operate effectively in a large organisation.
- Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and an ability to appropriately deal with confidentiality and privacy issues associated with development and donor relations activities.
- Demonstrated project management skills and a proven ability to prioritise workload
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to research, formulate and present high-level oral briefing
- Must possess advanced knowledge/skills with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database software; and must have exceptional customer service skills
Desirable
- Ability to initiate contact with prospects and cultivate appropriate donor relationships with the Hospital.
- Comfort with public speaking and the ability to understand economic concepts underlying charitable gifts.
- Success in developing relationships with volunteers in support of planned giving.
