About the program

Jesuit Community College, is a key initiative of Jesuit Social Services. For people facing significant barriers to learning, the College provides opportunities for personal development, a solid foundation for further education and training and connection to a community of learning.

Transition to Work is a new service to assist young people aged 15-21 years who are not in employment or education. The Transition to Work service provides intensive, pre-employment support to improve the Work readiness of young people and to help them into work (including Apprenticeships or Traineeships) or education. The service has a strong focus on helping young people to understand what is expected in the workplace and to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours expected by Employers.

 

About the role

As a Transition Officer – STRIVE, you will be responsible for working with a group of up to 50 young job seekers at any one time, assisting the development of their employability skills, to prepare them for employment or education.

The key objectives of this position are:

  • To increase the employment alignment of the interests of young job seekers and local industry needs
  • To increase the number of employers offering suitable work placements and vacancies to TtW participants, particularly in industries that provide strong vocational outcomes
  • To provide pre- and post-placement support on a fortnightly basis to young job seekers placed into employment or training to ensure sustainability

This is a full time position based in Hoppers Crossing with travel to the Collingwood office for monthly meetings or as required.

About you

We are looking for someone with a relevant tertiary qualification in youth work, employment, community services, education or career development and/or has extensive relevant experience.  You will also have a strong understanding of the barriers that prevent young people successfully engaging and completing education and proven experience and ability to facilitate or deliver re-engagement programs for disengaged young people.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to work as part of a team while working autonomously with minimal supervision. You should be able to communicate, liaise and network with schools, education providers, employment/industry, and community agencies in a professional manner.
