  • Permanent part-time - 12 hours per week
  • Based in Campbelltown; involves travel between the Macarthur and Wingecarribee areas
  • SCHCADS Award, Level 3 - hourly rates range from $28.21 to $30.26 per hour depending on qualifications/experience

About the Service

The Wollongong Diocesan Central Council operates a number of special works including Mental Health, Community Development and Accommodation Services. Compeer is an internationally affiliated program which first started in the United States in 1973. It provides friendship, advocacy and support for people living with a mental illness.  Compeer recruits, screens, trains and matches volunteers in one-to-one friendships with adults who are receiving support for mental illness.

The Role

The Support Officer of the Compeer Program will undertake duties in program support, volunteer recruitment, event management and interagency representation. The role will assist to deliver recovery focused, peer based mental health support to those experiencing mental illness.

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, engagement and management
  • Provide resources for and communicate adequately with volunteers on a regular basis
  • Assist with organising training days and peer support meetings as required 
  • Assist in the development of program information and training resources
  • Update internal and external referral pathways/services
  • Engage in regular communication for program enquiries
  • Attend inter-agency meetings and events as required
  • Support the coordinator with holistic interventions and referral support for participants of the program
  • Assist in the facilitation of various program meetings.

To be successful in this role, you will need

  • Completed or completing qualifications in community welfare, mental health, social work
  • Knowledge of various mental illnesses
  • Sound organisational, communication and administrative skills
  • Appropriate understanding and skills with technology, computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office and technical troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Willingness to travel between the Macarthur and Wingecarribee areas.
