The Project Officer will lead the trial of the Our Watch Project – ‘A Survivor Media Advocacy Project for the Prevention of Violence against Women’. 

Women Safety Services SA will be one of three States to trial the implementation of the National Our Watch Media Strategy. The Project Worker will lead survivor engagement and training and participate in the evaluation process that promotes and enables women survivors to become advocates.

This program also aims to effect change in community attitudes and public policy in relation to violence against women and its prevention. 

The Program Officer is responsible for all aspects of this program including working with the participants, intermediary between media and agencies booking the advocates for events; and organising ongoing support and learning opportunities for advocates.  It will also include the liaison with other organisations interested in developing media advocacy programs, and the development of systems, policies and procedures and involvement in training delivery.

The right candidate for this position will ideally have experience: 

  • Working directly with women who have been impacted by domestic and family violence
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy work, policy review and report writing
  • Experience working with the  media and/or in a communications role
  • Experience in the development and delivery of training programs
  • Well-developed project management skills and ability to deliver to deadlines

Selection criteria includes but is not limited to:

  • A tertiary degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, community Development or other relevant qualification and at least two years relevant experience
  • Commitment to working within a feminist framework and knowledge and or experience in working within the Domestic and Family Violence sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and well developed contemporary IT skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Capacity to network and build partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders
