About the Opportunity

Deloitte’s dedicated Health Advisory team in Queensland within our Commercial Advisory practice supports clients across the healthcare sector to plan and deliver sustainable, high quality and safe services to their patients.

We provide a full range of health service planning, financial and operational performance, funding and financing and business case development services. We are uniquely placed in the market being the only firm with a dedicated health sector focus and integration across a broad range of capabilities - and deliver value to our clients through our expertise in the health sector, our evidence-based approach, and our strong capability in clinical engagement.

We are seeking an Associate Director or Director to join our growing national health financial performance and service planning practice, based in Brisbane. Our team works with public hospitals and health organisations to improve their financial and operational performance, provide health service planning advice, hospital and service activation, hospital infrastructure business cases (including providing financial and commercial advice), and funding model development and advice, across the full spectrum of issues facing the health sector.

The focus of this role is health service planning - with the ideal candidate able to work across both health service and infrastructure planning projects.

The role will involve developing and maintaining key senior relationships in the health sector in Queensland, leading a team to deliver health service planning and infrastructure business case projects, and contributing to the ongoing development of our national practice.

About You

We are seeking applicants with eight to ten years’ experience in finance, planning and/or operational roles in the health sector. You will have experience working in either the public or private health sectors and have a strong interest and passion health and social policy.

The ideal candidate will have had recent experience as a Health Service Planning Manager or Director, Strategy and Planning Director, Health Planning and Infrastructure role, or similar - and/or have a clinical background. You may also have experience at the Senior Manager, Associate Director, and/or Director level in a consultancy firm.

While not mandatory, experience in the Queensland health system and relationships within the Queensland health and human services market are desirable.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • 8+ years of financial, service planning and/or operational experience in a hospital or health care setting
  • Training and a background as a clinician is highly desirable and will be looked upon favourably (although not necessarily current registration as a health practitioner)
  • Strong health care industry experience, and an understanding of the Australian health care system
  • Detailed understanding of the drivers of health service demand, and the service planning process; and experiencing leading and/or contributing to health service planning projects
  • An understanding of the end to end planning cycle, including the link between health service planning and infrastructure planning
  • An understanding of the infrastructure planning cycle (e.g. business case development), particularly in a social infrastructure setting
  • An understanding of the cost drivers in health care, and particularly in the hospital setting; and experience in financial management and reform initiatives in the health sector
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships, and build strong internal relationships within the firm
  • Highly developed analytical and quantitative skills, and written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to balance multiple engagements and responsibilities while providing exceptional client service
  • Ability to mobilise and lead teams of experts with diverse skill sets and backgrounds
  • Tertiary qualifications in health, management, finance, accounting, and/or a clinical background.

We would encourage practicing clinicians looking for a different opportunity, or those with a clinical background and project management experience to apply.
