We are seeking an experienced forest planning professional to lead the team that provides forest planning services including forest modelling, operational scheduling, valuation, inventory, forest data collection and maintenance and spatial information to our Northern Softwoods Region.

The Region manages nearly 95,000 hectares of predominantly radiata pine across central and northern parts of NSW. 

The position is based in Bathurst although the region includes forest in northern NSW and some travel will be required to support the team’s activities in these areas. 

Bathurst is a highly desirable living location with affordable living and the benefits of a regional lifestyle only two and a half hours drive from Sydney. 

With a university, outstanding community infrastructure including an entertainment centre, art gallery, indoor aquatic centre, regional sporting fields and a famous car race, the city has a lot to offer.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake active frontline firefighting duties and be available for afterhours fire standby on a rostered basis.

The position reports to the Forest Resources Manager and the ideal candidate will possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Previous experience in plantation forest planning/modelling, silvicultural management, valuation, inventory, spatial information and financial analysis.
  • Proven ability to use forest planning software such as ESRI ArcGIS, Remsoft Woodstock, YT Gen and the MS office suite of products
  • High level leadership, staff management, decision making and communication skills
  • Tertiary qualification in natural resource management or land management.
  • Ability and fitness to undertake fire roster duties, forest firefighting, work extended hours e.g. (fire roster) and to maintain sufficient fitness for the role is essential.
