Marketing and Communications Officer

Since 1903, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) have been the peak industry body in Australia's $310 billion retail sector, which employs over 1.2 million people. With a range of member services including business consulting, policy development, advocacy and education, the ARA promotes and protects over 7,500 independent and national retailers throughout Australia.
About the Role
Reporting to the Brand and Communications Manager, you will support the efficient delivery of communications and professional publications to stakeholders through the retail industry. This role will involve the creation and implementation of various marketing and communication activities.
The position requires a highly skilled and highly motivated individual to assist with the effective communication of ARA’s position on issues affecting the sector, and promote ARA services to all target audiences including members, potential members, media parties, stakeholders and ARA employees.
This is a 12 month full time contract role with a view to extend.
About You
You thrive working in busy environments and you are eager to learn new skills and want to further develop existing skills. You possess excellent time management skills to work to multiple deadlines during busy times. You are passionate about communications, research and marketing.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare high quality written content and member materials, including blog posts, media releases, industry reports and whitepapers and sponsored publications (in various formats)
- Assist with the promotion and coordination of events
- Fielding and facilitating media calls and interview requests
- Creating, coordinating and distribution of EDMs and e-newsletters
- Implementation of marketing and sponsor collateral across various ARA channels
- Coordinating social media content by maintaining a consistent voice for the brand on various channels
- Assist with the preparation, management and analysis of regular surveys of ARA’s membership base
- Provide effective administrative support for ARA marketing communications strategies - including developing, maintaining, planning, monitoring and reporting processes
Required skills:
- A tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, media, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in digital marketing, communications, media or public relations
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in writing and producing video content across a range of formats (including media releases, featured articles, blog posts, social and various marketing platforms.
- Self-driven, with a proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Highly developed organisational skills, including the ability to work effectively, under limited supervision, in a demanding, high pressure environment with a keen eye for detail
- Excellent information technology skills - including Client Relations Management (CRM) and Content Management Systems (CMS), email automation software and MS Office Suite
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite CC and Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Knowledge of, and experience using Wordpress, Hubspot, SurveyMonkey
- Basic understanding of desktop publishing (document layout and design)
- Social media strategy and optimisation knowledge
- Fundamental understanding of HTML code
- Familiarity with inbound marketing principles
