Since 1962, the Australian Medical Association of NSW (AMA) has been the peak lobbying body providing doctors with representation on medical issues, professional services (e.g. industrial relations advice), and a range of commercial benefits. We play a key role in forming public health and hospital policy, and advance the interests of the medical profession and their patients through effective advocacy. About the role

The Doctors in Training (DIT) Committee sets policy and strategy for advancing the medico-political, career development and industrial relations interests of doctors who are still undergoing medical training. The Relationships and Projects Manager is responsible for translating the DIT Committee's policy and strategy into deliverable actions and influencing internal and external stakeholders to implement them. We think of the role as like a brand/account manager where the "brand" is advancing the interests of DITs. The position reports to our Director of Membership Services and does not have any direct reports. The specific responsibilities are:

  • building and managing internal and external relationships (e.g. other AMA branches, ASMOF hospital management, health department, medical training colleges etc.) to influence these stakeholders to implement the DIT Committee's strategy and projects
  • event management and communication strategy design
  • act as the primary contact for all DIT enquiries, follow up provision of information and resolve complaints
  • consult with DITs to understand their needs, and make strategic recommendations for addressing these to the DIT Committee and AMA management
  • assist DIT Committee with policy development
  • co-ordinate DIT Committee including minutes, agendas, and correspondence. This will include attending an afterhours meeting approximately once per month
  • advocate and represent the AMA's member services to DITs
  • work with the AMA's partner organisation ASMOF to drive policy and outcomes
  • develop networks within the DIT group by attending/speaking at forums, regular hospital visits and use of social media/targeted marketing activities
  • assist in planning, budgeting, delivering and supervising events to enhance AMA brand with DITs and relevant stakeholders
  • develop content for newsletters, social media and other corporate communications to DITs
  • assist in the development, planning, delivery and enhancement of professional development programs for DITs and assess their effectiveness
  • identify opportunities for improving AMA services to DITs, including partnerships, sponsorships and financial grants
  • some intra and interstate travel may be required

Benefits and perks

For the successful candidate, this role offers a number of benefits including: a friendly team; a positive office environment that emphasises flexible working conditions; the opportunity to work at committee in the development of health-related policy; the opportunity to plan, budget and implement DIT projects and events; and the opportunity to apply your skills to meaningful projects that benefit society by helping doctor training. It provides a great opportunity to continue to develop your project management and influencing skills while gaining experience in health-related policy development.

Skills and experience

Previous experience in the health/medical sectors is desirable but not necessary.
