This is a fixed position until 31 August 2018

The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service).

Main Purpose of the PostThe “Materials and Manufacturing Education Training and Learning” (M2ETaL) project is a £1.5 million Work Based Learning operation part funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government. The operation will develop and deliver a series of 10 credit modules at NQF levels 4-8 to the workforce based in the Convergence area of Wales. The project will provide training on Advanced Materials and Manufacturing which have a huge impact on day to day engineering and industrial processes and products.

The primary objectives of M2ETaL are to provide work based training to employees whose day to day activities require some level of manufacturing and materials knowledge. Over the three year project METaL will train over 360 people to levels 4 – 8 outputting them with a minimum of a 10 credit qualification per person. M2ETaL will also work with industry to develop relevant courses for today’s workforce and embed them in the University’s module catalogue ensuring course content is available to companies beyond the lifetime of this project. M2ETaL will offer 10 credit courses in key metallurgical areas such as:

  • Introduction to Materials Engineering
  • Manufacturing Technology
  • 3D design
  • Condition monitoring
  • Polymers & composits
  • Corrosion protection and Coatings
  • Manufacturing Process Optimisation
  • Stainless steels
  • Aluminium and its alloys
  • Environmental issues
  • Practical metallurgy
  • Arc Welding

This post within the College of Engineering is to maximise the delivery of course material to industrial partners within the project life of M2ETaL.

The purpose of the post will be to work with METaL’s customers to develop and deliver modern and attractive materials and manufacturing based modules to be delivered in the workplace. Delivery of course material will take place at the operations site at Baglan Bay Innovation Centre, Swansea University’s new Bay Campus and at Customer locations

The post holder is expected to work with several different industries e.g. steel, oil and polymers, to produce the desired course material.

The post holder will also work with the Industrial Liaison officer to identify possible avenues for course development with current and future customers.
