We have received funding from the NIHR School for Primary Care Research to undertake two realist reviews concerning i): bereavement care in Primary Care settings and ii): interventions to optimise community palliative care. Realist reviews are designed to work with complex social interventions or programmes, and provide explanatory analyses aimed at discerning what works for whom, in what circumstances, in what respects and how.
The review is part of a major programme of 20 reviews within the School, which the post-holder will be part of. Supported by Dr Stephen Barclay (University Senior Lecturer), Dr Ian Wellwood (Senior Research Associate) and Isla Kuhn (Medical Librarian) and a patient and public involvement (PPI) group, the post-holder will lead the two reviews, which are anticipated to lead to high impact journal publications and future grant proposals. Realist review training (if needed) and methodological support will be provided to the successful applicant by the project team including Dr Geoff Wong (Clinical Research Fellow, University of Oxford). The post-holder will be a member of the Palliative and End of Life Care Group of the university Primary Care Unit, www.phpc.cam.ac.uk/pcu/research/research-groups/end-of-life-care: a flourishing multidisciplinary research group based in the Institute of Public Health, Cambridge.
The post-holder will will have experience of research in Primary Care and/or End of Life Care Research and a publication record in these areas. Some previous experience of evidence synthesis/systematic literature reviews is essential. The post-holder will have a PhD or equivalent experience and a good first degree or equivalent qualifications.
Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded.
The funds for these posts are available for 2 years in the first instance.
