About the Assignment
The Institute of Petroleum and Geology analyses and reports on geological and seismic data to facilitate the development of extractive industries in Timor-Leste and to provide information on earthquake hazards for the general population. The IPG has identified skills shortage in the areas of data compiling, processing, analysis and interpretation as well as scientific reporting, earthquake hazard mapping and modelling. Currently, scientific reporting from the IPG is not completed to an international standard and many reports remain unedited and unpublished.
In this hands-on role you will focus on working with technicians to build their skills in all aspects of data gathering, analysis and reporting. You will also work alongside the IPG management staff to ensure that they use appropriate project planning, management, and budgeting skills and that consequently the institute can carry out its objectives more effectively.
This assignment offers an opportunity to make a sustainable impact on earthquake preparedness in Timor Leste.
We are Looking for a Volunteer with:
- Tertiary qualification and at least five years’ experience in geophysics, seismology or a related field
- Significant experience compiling, analysing and reporting on seismic and mapping data
- Experience using relevant software e.g. SeisComP3
- Experience using modern seismic equipment for field analysis
- Project and budget management experience
This is a 18-month assignment based in Dili, Timor-Leste.
