Our Trekking team offer full and half day guided walks within the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, sharing their knowledge of the local flora and fauna and the history of the area through informative and entertaining commentary. Our aim is to build a team that take pride in their roles and have a passion for connecting with our guests with energy and enthusiasm.

What your day will look like

As a supervisor within the department you'll help to motivate and lead a team of Trekking Guides to provide a unique experience to our guests. You will also be hands on and be taking our groups and individuals on a guided interpretative trek in some of NZ's most amazing scenery, all the while ensuring a high standard of health and safety is maintained.

You'll be responsible for:

• Assisting with the training and supervision of trekking guides, providing feedback and ensuring accuracy of information
• Checking in guests and ensuring trips depart on time
• Assisting with reservations and liaising with tour agents
• Presenting to groups and providing safety briefings
• Providing informative commentary with your own personal style and flair
• Guiding walks along tracks within the National park
• Ensuring a high level of Health and Safety is maintained and ensuring all staff follow the correct procedures and processes

About you

Our teams live and work together so it's important that you have a positive attitude and an enthusiasm for working alongside and with others. You must have previous guiding or trekking experience however we provide training to ensure you're kept up to speed with our products, our services, our standards and our expectations. Previously holding a supervisor or senior role in a tourism position will be advantageous.

We cater to large groups of international guests and with this is mind you'll need to speak fluent Japanese and have a great understanding of Japanese culture.

So if you are:

• A fluent Japanese speaker;
• A natural leader, with the ability to motivate and lead a team;
• Excellent at communicating with a diverse range of guests;
• Experienced at presenting in front of others with previous guiding experience in an outdoor environment; and
• Able to understand different cultures, specifically Japanese culture

To be successful in this role you need be willing to multi-task and be flexible in your approach to work. Our Japanese and Chinese speaking staff also assist other departments with translation and act as guides for other activities such as Stargazing and Glacier Explorers.

• Applicants should be legally entitled to work in New Zealand, although assistance to obtain this may be provided for some roles.
• All positions at Aoraki Mt Cook Alpine Village Ltd have accommodation provided as part of our unique lifestyle package, with the weekly board & lodgings rates including three meals a day and power. Due to the idyllic, isolated location of Mt Cook, you will need to be comfortable working and living in a remote location.
