New Zealand Police are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to be a Data Interception Investigator in the Data Interception Unit (DIU).

The DIU is a small team working within the Crime Monitoring Centre (CMC) in Wellington City. The DIU is a highly-engaged workgroup that provide 24/7 support to District investigation teams by scrutinising, manipulating and analysing data. You should have good listening, written and verbal communication skills and be able to work well within a busy, established team environment. The position of Data Interception Investigator is a busy and challenging role that involves working rostered shifts.

This is a technical role and you must have an in-depth knowledge of the technologies the internet is built on and be able to use the internet as an investigative tool. You should also be able to write script to solve problems.

As a Data Interception Investigator, you should be self-motivated, inquisitive, methodical and tenacious. You will have the opportunity to drive NZ Police forward in the area of data investigation and contribute directly to targeting and catching offenders.

Skills:

  • Collate, evaluate, analyse and process intercepted data and communications
  • Able to use the internet as an investigative tool
  • Clear, concise written and oral communication skills
  • Research and develop analytical tools and techniques in the area of data interception and analysis
  • Write script to facilitate developing analytical tools and to solve problems

Experience:

  • Have sound in-depth knowledge of the technologies the internet is built on
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team
  • Communicate complex ideas and processes clearly to a range of audiences
