We are seeking a talented geotechnical / environmental engineer or scientist to join the geotechnical and land contamination engineering group with an immediate start.  Candidates must be enthusiastic, practical and resourceful, take pride in their work, hold safety as a high priority, have a positive attitude and be punctual, reliable, hardworking and able to work in a flexible and fast paced environment.  Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Carry out and coordinate geotechnical and environmental (land contamination)  fieldwork, including hand augering, soil and groundwater sampling, DCP and other in-situ testing
  • Carry out site inspections and construction supervision
  • Log soil and rock profiles
  • Write quality factual and interpretive reports
  • Assist with drilling related activities carried out with our 4WD drilling rigs
  • Assist quality control associated with plant, equipment and drilling processes
  • Coordinate with and assist other engineers to carry out project tasks
  • Organise and supervise sub-contractors
  • Become familiar with logging and design software

To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or other relevant field, attained from an accredited Australian institution, or equivalent Engineers Australia accredited qualification
  • Hold permanent full-time Australian work rights (no temporary visa holders)
  • Hold, and maintain for the duration of employment, a current Australian driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent skills with email systems, word processing and spreadsheets
  • Be able to work autonomously and/or within a team environment
  • Proven experience conducting geotechnical / environmental investigations and writing reports  (desirable but not essential)
  • Proven experience in land development (desirable but not essential)

Martens' main office is located next to Hornsby Train Station.  Our works depot / workshop is located within 5 minutes' drive of the office.  Fieldwork will generally be Sydney based although travel within greater NSW and occasional interstate work, including overnight stays, is required.
