Environmental Location Systems is looking for enthusiastic, hardworking professionals to join our rapidly growing team as an Operations Manager.
Environmental Location Systems has been locating and tracing underground utilities for over 20 years and we are the pioneers in this unique and up and coming industry.
We service Melbourne's biggest construction projects and deal with multiple OS and Local clients.
Our most recent projects include:
- Western Distributor
- Level Crossing Removal Projects
- Tullamarine Widening Project
- Prisons Victoria.
Most of our works involve working on major roadways and reserves. As well as works on Metro and VLine Trains networks, Melbourne Airport and the Port of Melbourne.
We work closely with the general public, construction site managers, designers and councils, therefore the ability to build a good customer rapport and a clean and tidy appearance is required along with the ability to work out complicated underground networks.

Reporting to the General Manager and working alongside another Operations Managers at our office based in Dandenong South, the Operations Manager will be required to coordinate and resource requested jobs, multiple 3rd party sub-contractors and utility owners.
You will also be required to deliver projects & houlry hire works on time, within budget and to the highest of quality standards.
- Overall management of ongoing compliances for standards in the Subsurface Utility Identification industry.
- Infrequent field work assisting surveyors, utility locators and vacuum truck operators.
- Feature and Utility surveying using Trimble Total Station, Trimble GPS, and Dumpy Levels (if capable)
- Liaising with field staff on a ground roots level and coordinate staffing requirements.
- Bid and Tender experience, high level through to minor subcontractor agreements.
- Working through complex underground network drawings, with a high-level understanding of MOCS and DBYD data.
Skills and experience
EXPERIENCE
- Operations Management and/or equivalent industry experience in the Civil or Underground Network Sector
- Experience in underground networks including knowledge of AS5488-2013
- Geo Spatial Survey experience
- Bidding and Tender experience
- Construction White Card.
Desirable work experience in:
- CCTV WSA 05-2008/13 , Jet Drain Cleaning and COMBO use
- Rail Projects and Rail Systems (permits etc)
- Total Station and GPS (preferably TRIMBLE).
- NULCA or Telstra accredited Service Locator.
- Microsoft Office suites
- Any other relevant accreditation or industry experience will be heavily considered
SKILLS
- High Level problem solving abilities and decision making
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong delegation skills between office staff and field staff
Training will be provided to the right candidate, dependent on the level of industry experience demonstrated.
