Our client is a well-respected government organisation servicing the local infrastructure market. They are looking for a Senior WHS Officer based in a central Newcastle location.

Reporting to the WHS Manager, you will be comfortable providing input into the strategy and direction for WHS systems and be able to add value from the get go. This role will focus on High Risk Field Operations, in particular the Fatal Risk Program and associated initiatives.
 

Key areas of responsibility include: 

• Ensure compliance with OHS and WHS legal obligations, industry and Australian standards;
• Understand, read and write organisational polices and legislation
• Management of multiple stakeholders internal/external
• This role has three direct reports to mentor 
• Driving a positive WHS culture through implementing WHS Programs such as Behavioural Based Safety Programs

The successful applicant will possess:

• Formal tertiary qualifications in OHS/WHS or Risk
• A proactive and positive approach to work
• Several years’ experience in a safety role within water/civil infrastructure, industrial, government sector or relevant infrastructure industries
• Ability to work out on site or in a corporate environment
• Previous consulting experience is preferred 
• Solid understanding or trades and labor areas
