The Royal Institution of Australia has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Video Journalist to produce and present high quality content.

Based in our Adelaide office and reporting to the Head of Publishing, this role is focused on developing and producing videos and other content for publication through our online platform, Australia’s Science Channel.

The successful candidate must be a reporter and presenter who can also write, produce, shoot and edit.

While a background in science and technology is not essential, the successful candidate must demonstrate a passion for the subjects and an intense curiosity about the world around them.

They will also demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, a strong sense of urgency, and a thorough grasp of digital and social content distribution.

The successful candidate must also be willing to work with our University and institutional partners to help them tell stories of their research in compelling and exciting ways.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

• Develop engaging stories about science, technology, engineering and mathematics and content using both video and words.
• Work alongside other journalists to produce video to complement stories.
• Work with our university partners to edit and develop videos and other content based on their research.
• Produce, shoot, edit and carry out necessary post-production within budget.
• Find engaging video content that will appeal to our audience.
• Ensure videos are delivered in a timely manner and meet high quality standards.
• Build and foster internal/external relationships to develop departmental performance.

To be successful in this position, you are required to possess experience in:

• An intense curiosity about science, technology and the world around us
• Experience in a media or production company
• Journalism/Film/Video/Photography Production Diploma/Degree or relevant on job experience
• Production management
• Video content production
• Writing news and features copy
• Experience in using Adobe Premiere Pro
• Demonstrated creativity
