Senior Advocacy Officer – NSW Government


A Senior Advocacy Officer is required by a NSW Government Department in the Sydney CBD on an initial contract until the end of 2018. They will be working on advocacy-based initiatives to promote the department’s work and assist client businesses.
  
Key accountabilities:
  • Create and deliver employee communications and engagement events; establish and deliver programmed CEO communications
  • Review and act as a liaison regarding funding activity emanating from the client engagement team
  • Ensure all advocacy is consistent with the departmental branding and effectively promotes its objectives and programs
  • Coordinate a range of outreach events for the department and its clients including briefing sessions, web-based information sessions and forums
  • Develop and expand community and influencer outreach efforts on behalf of the department by building relationships with the startup community
  • Develop engaging messaging activities aligned with identified communication strategies
  • Assist with the definition of content strategy, communication style and target market segments
  • Collaborate with teams across the department to engage staff on issues important to them and the department
Selection criteria:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (event management, communications, marketing, PR or related)
  • 5+ years’ experience across print, web and digital
  • Strong writing and editing skills (including briefs)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, particularly internal
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Journalism or corporate affairs experience (highly regarded)
