We seek to appoint a Professor of Physical Chemistry with exceptional and internationally recognised achievement in any branch of experimental physical chemistry or chemical physics, in particular with interests that sit within the broader remit of photochemistry and spectroscopy. The position will be based within the Physical Chemistry group, which has distinctive research strengths in gas-phase electron diffraction, photochemistry and spectroscopy, the molecular design of new materials and devices, theoretical and computational chemistry, and applied and fundamental research in nuclear magnetic resonance and magnetic resonance imaging.

The successful applicant will be a dynamic research leader with a proven track record and will work alongside colleagues in the department in helping York further enhance its very strong reputation in both research and teaching. They will be expected to play a leadership role in supporting and strengthening physical chemistry and in contributing to the teaching of physical chemistry at York.

The Candidate

  • PhD in Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics or related discipline.
  • Established track record of high-quality research achievements.
  • A track record of published outputs in leading high-impact international and national peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to define, lead, manage and attract funds for research from diverse funding sources and with demonstrated potential to exploit opportunities in the current research funding climate.
  • Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate level and evidence of successful course planning, design and delivery across a range of modules.
  • Ability to contribute to the strategic development of the Department.
