Detail information about job Research Associate in Computational Mechanics. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed Term for 24 Months

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Mechanics of Advanced Materials research group with the goal of developing computational tools that capture material response at small length-scales.

The project deals with characterizing the material response of metal matrix composites when subjected to very high localized thermal and deformation gradients. Appropriate crystal plasticity models are to be developed which accounts for grain growth and recrystallization. Post-graduate qualification to doctorate level or equivalent experience at a senior level is expected.

Experience of numerical modelling of crystalline materials in a finite element framework is essential. Knowledge of modelling grain growth or phase change is desirable, in the absence of which the candidate is expected to learn these skills during the course of the appointment.

The project will form one of the integral parts of a collaborative research grant with the academia and industry, which is funded by the EPSRC. The candidate is expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

For informal enquiries please contact Anish Roy - project lead ([email protected]).

Application Closing Date: 13 September 2017.

Interviews will take place in week commencing 25 September 2017.

Loughborough University is committed to achieving equality and valuing diversity in all aspects of employment and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
