We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow in Urology to participate in research projects that focuses on novel diagnostic tests and minimally invasive therapies for prostate cancer. The Wellcome Trust PRISM programme (Prostate Research in Imaging and Surgical Methodology) led by Professor Hashim Ahmed has an international reputation in this field with regular visitors from Europe and North America to learn research and clinical techniques proposing a change in the prostate cancer diagnosis and therapeutic pathway.
The successful candidate will be part of exciting ground-breaking research studies. These projects involve working within multi-disciplinary clinical and research groups such as imaging, pathology, engineering and molecular biology. The post will also involve liaising with Imperial’s Joint Research Office, industry, regulatory authorities and the Surgical and Interventional Trials Unit (SITU) at Imperial that is also led by Professor Ahmed.
During the course of the appointment the Clinical Research Fellow will be expected to undertake studies leading to a higher research degree (MD/PhD).
The appointee’s research work must take place within the Department of Surgery and Cancer and Imperial Urology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, but may work in collaboration with divisions other than Surgery. Clinical work will be undertaken to provide nominal on-going experience in clinics and theatres at the direction of Professor Ahmed.
A degree in medicine (MBBS or equivalent) is essential, as is full General Medical Council registration. Experience of multi-disciplinary working is essential as is knowledge of surgery and urology.
This full time post is fixed term for one year in the first instance.
