Due to an unexpected vacancy, a well-established Sino-British University Programme in Chengdu, China is seeking to appoint a lecturer for the delivery of introductory computing modules, with an emphasis on systems analysis and design for an undergraduate Knowledge Management award.
Duties include:
- Creating and delivering lectures and practical activities for a maximum of 20 teaching periods per week
- Develop professional assessments to test learning outcomes
- Academic advisor for a select group of students
- Provide tutorial time for up to 6 hours per week
- Liaise with UK partners for module improvement and validation.
Skills and Competencies
- Database concepts, design, development and management (practical activities in MySQL)
- Agile methodologies
- Knowledge of collaborative systems
- Understanding of professional skills and ethical issues in IT
- Be able to design an inclusive lesson using active strategies for student engagement
Job DescriptionIn your role, you will be responsible for the lead delivery of two computing modules over one academic year. You will deliver dynamic classes which engage students who are studying a UK qualification in a challenging subject in a second language. The role will challenge your assumptions and make you think creatively about how you interact and deliver key concepts to students and deliver module learning outcomes.

They should be competent in the requirements set out in this advert. Ideal candidates will be willing to continuously improve through life-long learning. They should also be adaptable, while having a strong sense of duty toward maintaining academic standards.
Candidates are normally expected to have a masters degree in a relevant subject or relevant professional experience, and some Higher Education teaching experience. Experience of professional practice and evidence of research, scholarship and a reflective approach to teaching would be looked upon favourably.
About the positionChengdu is a thriving city in south-west China that currently presents great opportunities for living and working, as well as outstanding potential for research projects. Within the programme, we have a dedicated staff development scheme including the chance to take a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (International) ensuring the quality of courses delivered are of an equivalent standard to those delivered in the UK.
This position is a contracted position for one academic year, full time in Chengdu from September 2017 and finishing in the Summer of 2018. We have a low staff turnover and seek to recruit a member of staff who plans to stay longer term. Benefits are awarded for staff who re-sign for subsequent years. On campus accommodation is offered as part of the remuneration package along with airline tickets for travel to and from China.
