Together our staff and students are discovering innovative ways to change the world for the better and there has never been a more exciting time for you to join us. We are ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide and have an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are led by discovery and innovation, with the synergy between research and learning at the core of our activity.

These are exciting times for Informatics at Leicester. As part of a flagship investment aimed at increasing our capacity and expertise to accommodate a growing and increasingly diverse student population, we are creating six new posts in both teaching and research.

This is part of a new phase of the development of our university to implement an ambitious and transformative agenda for 2020 and beyond. The University of Leicester is a world-leading institution, marked by a belief in the synergy of research and teaching.

At Informatics in Leicester we are committed to increasing the role of project-based learning at all levels of our BSc and MSc degrees. As part of this drive we have started a student software company, the Agile Academy, to deliver software and IT projects to external and internal customers.

The purpose of this role is to support the growth of Agile Academy by proving additional project management and technical skill and developing a deeper integration of its activities into teaching and learning, especially in the context of 2nd and final year project as well as student placements.

You will help students to manage projects and provide a level of professionalism and quality. You will identify potential clients, the scope and plan projects to allow students to undertake client-based project work as part of academic and extra-curricular work.

The role will also support the strategic aims to grow Agile Academy as a means of supporting the research and teaching within Informatics and in other departments. Applicants should therefore have an interest in how commercial projects and enterprise activities can help university students.

You will undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Computing and Computer Science degrees, contribute to module and curriculum design in particular in applied and software engineering topics, supervise individual and group projects for BSc and MSc students and provide guidance and support to student-led enterprise activities. Teaching, project management and supervision, and related administration will take 80% of your time.

To inform your teaching and development you will engage in scholarship (teaching-related, empirical or pedagogical research) and play an active role in sharing your expertise across the College, University and beyond. The scholarship element of the role will take 20% of your time.

A lecturer position in the UK is similar to an assistant professorship in the North-American system.
