Postdoctoral Research Position in Host-Pathogen Biology
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and is an internationally renowned centre for fundamental biomedical research.
The LMB has a strong track record in training Postdoctoral Fellows who have gone on to become leading Scientists. We also have an excellent record of innovative basic research leading to applications in medicine. Following our move to a new laboratory in 2013, we are able to provide state-of-the-art facilities in which innovative medical research, translation and collaboration can flourish.
A postdoctoral position for a structural biologist is available in the James lab at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). We use multi-disciplinary approaches to address fundamental questions in infection and immunity and you will join a highly integrated and motivated team with diverse skills and expertise across molecular biology. Specific projects will involve capitalizing on our recent discoveries of the cytosolic antibody receptor TRIM21 and nucleotide import in HIV.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, biophysics or chemistry with a background in structural approaches. Experience in X-ray crystallography and complementary biophysical techniques would be highly beneficial as would an enthusiasm to learn other methods such as cryo-EM.
An ability to work independently on dedicated projects, provide support and become involved with other projects in the lab is important.
This is a 3-year post-doctoral position. It is a training and development position for a postdoctoral scientist who has recently completed their studies or who is wishing to move into a different research discipline.
Successful applicants will be awarded a 3-year Career Development Fellowship/MRC Postdoctoral Training Scheme. The fellowship is a Training and Development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, or is moving into a new research discipline.
