Job DescriptionThe European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).

The Boulard group is looking for a Research Scientist/Technician who will participate in its research as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists. The Boulard group uses mouse genetics and biochemical approaches to explore the molecular basis of epigenetic silencing. The following is a brief overview of the tasks of the Research Scientist/Technician.

Specific ResearchExpert support and management of ongoing research projects especially in stem cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry. Presentation of data at internal and external meetings. Assistance in the preparation of manuscripts for publication. The person appointed will have the possibility to carry out his/her own research project.

Training and SupervisionTraining of new group members in the technologies and protocols used in the laboratory, including culture of embryonic stem cells, genome editing, mRNA and protein analyses, etc. Testing and developing of new experimental protocols.

Lab ManagementGeneral laboratory management, including administration of reagent databases, instrument maintenance and scheduling, organizing and ordering laboratory supplies.

Qualifications and ExperienceThe successful candidate should have confirmed expertise and ideally 5 years working experience in at least one of the following fields of fundamental research: (a) Mouse genetics or (b) molecular biology and stem cell culture. Please state in your cover letter which areas your experience covers. Additional expertise in chromatin biology would be advantageous.

The ideal candidate should have independence in the use of, and teaching of the principal techniques used in mouse biology, molecular biology and biochemistry. Experience in genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 and/or homologous recombination in ES cells is desirable. (S)he should have demonstrated proficiency in coordination and organizational tasks. The successful candidate should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and enjoy working as a part of a team. Excellent knowledge of English is required.
