Established in 1853, The University of Melbourne has been at the centre of learning in Australia for over 150 years. Currently ranked 39th internationally (Times Higher Education (THE) Asia-Pacific Ranking 2017), the University is Australia’s leading research university aspiring to be public-spirited and internationally engaged. As part of the University’s transition to the Melbourne Operating Model, the Division of University Services is now seeking to appoint to a newly created position: Director, Scholarly Services.
University Services consists of over 1,600 staff who deliver a range of professional services and provide expert advice to advance the strategic agenda of the University and to enable the best teaching and research outcomes. Operating within the framework of the Melbourne Operating Model, University Services aims to deliver high quality, sustainable and user-friendly services, systems and expert advice.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of University Services and Registrar, the Director will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of university scholarly services. The Director will interact across the portfolio of university libraries, service points, learning spaces, research and collections programs (including archives and museums) and learning technologies. The Director will be expected to provide strategic advice and support to the chairs of Academic Board committees, Vice Chancellor, Provost and Registrar as required as well as driving strategic imperatives into the appropriate service response. The role requires someone who is proactive with significant leadership experience, adept at maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across a thriving and complex higher education setting with a vision for scholarly services in the short, medium and long term. Candidates should have considerable experience in at least one of the scholarly service portfolio areas with exposure to other portfolio areas desirable.
