An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Professor of Gastroenterology within the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition and the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology.
The creation of this post has been led by the University and the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology who have identified as a priority the appointment of a senior academic in the field who can establish a programme of research, act as a focus for others to work with, stimulate research grant applications and publications and to foster a stimulating environment. Consideration will be given to appointment at Reader level for candidates who do not yet meet the complete specification but demonstrate an upward trajectory of academic quality and potential.
The principal objective for this senior appointment is to establish a research team, make internal and external collaborations, provide clinical research leadership and enable translational research in partnership with laboratory or health services or economics research staff. Applications are welcome from candidates who will strengthen priority areas within the School. Applicants working in colonic cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition or whose work has synergies with the Rowett Institute (https://www.abdn.ac.uk/rowett/) are particularly welcome.
The successful applicant will be expected to have an international profile in gastroenterology translational research and clinical expertise in one of the above defined areas. S/he will have a proven track record in obtaining research funding from charities, research councils or pharma industry, and delivering clinical trials and a translational programme as well as high impact publications. Full GMC registration and a Higher Degree, PhD or equivalent is essential.
A contribution to the teaching portfolio associated with Gastroenterology is required at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointment will carry honorary consultant status, with appropriate clinical duties undertaken with NHS Grampian.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the salary scale for Staff Honorary Consultant Contracts salary scale (£78,304 - £105,570 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
