We are seeking an engineer to join the IT Operations Infrastructure team, provide best practice technical expertise in the management and project based development of the University’s network infrastructure and related technologies.

IT Operations Infrastructure team is a multi-disciplined team of engineers developing and maintaining the technology that underpins the systems that the University needs to operate and provide quality services for students and staff.

The successful candidate will have experience of an enterprise scale IT Infrastructure, including a good working knowledge and experience of critical network components, including firewalls, core and edge switches, load balancers, and the Wi-Fi controllers. A significant proportion of the role will be developing designs, implementing plans to enhance the current infrastructure, and acting as the escalation point for significant incidents, and ongoing problems.

This is an opportunity to contribute and take ownership of developments that will make a real difference to the successful delivery of the University’s Strategic Programmes including the Learning 2020, Performance 2020 and the Student Journey programme.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong experience with Juniper/Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and other network components.
  • In depth knowledge of WAN, LAN, DNS, TCP/IP, SSL, VPN, Load Balancing and Wi-Fi.
  • Experience of network solution design and planning, including implementation, configuration, rolling replacements and upgrades.
  • General Infrastructure experience - Active Directory, Windows Server.
  • Effective monitoring of a network infrastructure and respond appropriately to events.
  • Ability to develop and manage good working relationships with internal and external teams, and suppliers (Stakeholder Engagement).
